You know the saying "a chain is only as strong as its weakest link"? The weakest link is also referred to as a bottle neck, meaning that you can only pass as much "stuff" into the bottle as the width of the bottle neck will allow. ANYWAY...
So I started thinking about my studio equipment and my recording process, and what was the bottle neck in my signal path. I figured that my mic cord was the weakest link at the moment, so I purchased a Monster Cable XLR cord, which are the best cables there are in the bidness, and they have a lifetime warranty. F.o.r.e.v.e.r. Next I'll probably have to upgrade my soundcard, then my preamps.
Just something to consider and ponder. What do you think is bottlenecking your quality? I need to upgrade things to peak out my microphone quality. Right now, I'm not using it to its fullest potential.

I don't think there is really anything hindering our quality right now. Our post-recording stuff is what needs the most attention.
To max out my guitar quality, though, I need to buy a nice amp/cabinet setup. That will set me back a few grand

Good stuff on the Monster cables, D, I've been rockin' those since I got my stuff.
I'd say my "bottle neck" is probably my mixer.

Man, fixing the preamp situation and the new mic cord, I can tell my quality is even better. TOO crisp sometimes, but sounds great after a light reverb and some EQing.
Also, I just added a Casiotone MT-24 keyboard to the equipment list, which I need to type up (that would make a good thread for new board to pin, everyone can post their stuff). The keyboard is a piece of junk from the 80's, but its enough to practice on.

My bottleneck is that I don't have any equipment here in Knoxville.
My Sampler and cord/mic stuff is all up in Kentucky.
So the only stuff I can do is entirely internal to the computer. So I've been biding my time ripping samples from public domain movies and thinking about how I can use them in a song.
I thought Terminal was going to swing out here this summer, but that fell through, so I guess I'll be music-making-less for a while longer yet.

My bottle neck is the pc I record on, it has a lot of noise, it processes things slow. Other than that I need a new bass, with some good electronics, oh and a dope amp.
